Google Chrome Terms of Service

These Terms of Service apply to the executable code version of Google Chrome. Source code for Google Chrome is available free of charge under open source software license agreements at https://code.google.com/chromium/terms.html.

1. Your relationship with Google

1.1 Your use of Google’s products, software, services and web sites (referred to collectively as the “Services” in this document and excluding any services provided to you by Google under a separate written agreement) is subject to the terms of a legal agreement between you and Google. “Google” means Google Inc., whose principal place of business is at 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, United States. This document explains how the agreement is made up, and sets out some of the terms of that agreement.

1.2 Unless otherwise agreed in writing with Google, your agreement with Google will always include, at a minimum, the terms and conditions set out in this document. These are referred to below as the “Universal Terms”. Open source software licenses for Google Chrome source code constitute separate written agreements. To the limited extent that the open source software licenses expressly supersede these Universal Terms, the open source licenses govern your agreement with Google for the use of Google Chrome or specific included components of Google Chrome.

1.3 Your agreement with Google will also include the terms set forth below in the Google Chrome Additional Terms of Service and terms of any Legal Notices applicable to the Services, in addition to the Universal Terms. All of these are referred to below as the “Additional Terms”. Where Additional Terms apply to a Service, these will be accessible for you to read either within, or through your use of, that Service.

1.4 The Universal Terms, together with the Additional Terms, form a legally binding agreement between you and Google in relation to your use of the Services. It is important that you take the time to read them carefully. Collectively, this legal agreement is referred to below as the “Terms”.

1.5 If there is any contradiction between what the Additional Terms say and what the Universal Terms say, then the Additional Terms shall take precedence in relation to that Service.

2. Accepting the Terms

2.1 In order to use the Services, you must first agree to the Terms. You may not use the Services if you do not accept the Terms.

2.2 You can accept the Terms by:

(A) clicking to accept or agree to the Terms, where this option is made available to you by Google in the user interface for any Service; or

(B) by actually using the Services. In this case, you understand and agree that Google will treat your use of the Services as acceptance of the Terms from that point onwards.

3. Language of the Terms

3.1 Where Google has provided you with a translation of the English language version of the Terms, then you agree that the translation is provided for your convenience only and that the English language versions of the Terms will govern your relationship with Google.

3.2 If there is any contradiction between what the English language version of the Terms says and what a translation says, then the English language version shall take precedence.

4. Provision of the Services by Google

4.1 Google has subsidiaries and affiliated legal entities around the world (“Subsidiaries and Affiliates”). Sometimes, these companies will be providing the Services to you on behalf of Google itself. You acknowledge and agree that Subsidiaries and Affiliates will be entitled to provide the Services to you.

4.2 Google is constantly innovating in order to provide the best possible experience for its users. You acknowledge and agree that the form and nature of the Services which Google provides may change from time to time without prior notice to you.

4.3 As part of this continuing innovation, you acknowledge and agree that Google may stop (permanently or temporarily) providing the Services (or any features within the Services) to you or to users generally at Google’s sole discretion, without prior notice to you. You may stop using the Services at any time. You do not need to specifically inform Google when you stop using the Services.

4.4 You acknowledge and agree that if Google disables access to your account, you may be prevented from accessing the Services, your account details or any files or other content which is contained in your account.

5. Use of the Services by you

5.1 You agree to use the Services only for purposes that are permitted by (a) the Terms and (b) any applicable law, regulation or generally accepted practices or guidelines in the relevant jurisdictions (including any laws regarding the export of data or software to and from the United States or other relevant countries).

5.2 You agree that you will not engage in any activity that interferes with or disrupts the Services (or the servers and networks which are connected to the Services).

5.3 Unless you have been specifically permitted to do so in a separate agreement with Google, you agree that you will not reproduce, duplicate, copy, sell, trade or resell the Services for any purpose.

5.4 You agree that you are solely responsible for (and that Google has no responsibility to you or to any third party for) any breach of your obligations under the Terms and for the consequences (including any loss or damage which Google may suffer) of any such breach.

6. Privacy and your personal information

6.1 For information about Google’s data protection practices, please read Google’s privacy policy at https://www.google.com/privacy.html and at https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/privacy/. This policy explains how Google treats your personal information, and protects your privacy, when you use the Services.

6.2 You agree to the use of your data in accordance with Google’s privacy policies.

7. Content in the Services

7.1 You understand that all information (such as data files, written text, computer software, music, audio files or other sounds, photographs, videos or other images) which you may have access to as part of, or through your use of, the Services are the sole responsibility of the person from which such content originated. All such information is referred to below as the “Content.”

7.2 You should be aware that Content presented to you as part of the Services, including but not limited to advertisements in the Services and sponsored Content within the Services may be protected by intellectual property rights which are owned by the sponsors or advertisers who provide that Content to Google (or by other persons or companies on their behalf). You may not modify, rent, lease, loan, sell, distribute or create derivative works based on this Content (either in whole or in part) unless you have been specifically told that you may do so by Google or by the owners of that Content, in a separate agreement.

7.3 Google reserves the right (but shall have no obligation) to pre-screen, review, flag, filter, modify, refuse or remove any or all Content from any Service. For some of the Services, Google may provide tools to filter out explicit sexual content. These tools include the SafeSearch preference settings (see https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/510?hl=en). In addition, there are commercially available services and software to limit access to material that you may find objectionable.

7.4 You understand that by using the Services you may be exposed to Content that you may find offensive, indecent or objectionable and that, in this respect, you use the Services at your own risk.

7.5 You agree that you are solely responsible for (and that Google has no responsibility to you or to any third party for) any Content that you create, transmit or display while using the Services and for the consequences of your actions (including any loss or damage which Google may suffer) by doing so.

8. Proprietary rights

8.1 You acknowledge and agree that Google (or Google’s licensors) own all legal right, title and interest in and to the Services, including any intellectual property rights which subsist in the Services (whether those rights happen to be registered or not, and wherever in the world those rights may exist).

8.2 Unless you have agreed otherwise in writing with Google, nothing in the Terms gives you a right to use any of Google’s trade names, trade marks, service marks, logos, domain names, and other distinctive brand features.

8.3 If you have been given an explicit right to use any of these brand features in a separate written agreement with Google, then you agree that your use of such features shall be in compliance with that agreement, any applicable provisions of the Terms, and Google's brand feature use guidelines as updated from time to time. These guidelines can be viewed online at https://www.google.com/permissions/guidelines.html (or such other URL as Google may provide for this purpose from time to time).

8.4 Google acknowledges and agrees that it obtains no right, title or interest from you (or your licensors) under these Terms in or to any Content that you submit, post, transmit or display on, or through, the Services, including any intellectual property rights which subsist in that Content (whether those rights happen to be registered or not, and wherever in the world those rights may exist). Unless you have agreed otherwise in writing with Google, you agree that you are responsible for protecting and enforcing those rights and that Google has no obligation to do so on your behalf.

8.5 You agree that you shall not remove, obscure, or alter any proprietary rights notices (including copyright and trade mark notices) which may be affixed to or contained within the Services.

8.6 Unless you have been expressly authorized to do so in writing by Google, you agree that in using the Services, you will not use any trade mark, service mark, trade name, logo of any company or organization in a way that is likely or intended to cause confusion about the owner or authorized user of such marks, names or logos.

9. License from Google

9.1 Google gives you a personal, worldwide, royalty-free, non-assignable and non-exclusive license to use the software provided to you by Google as part of the Services as provided to you by Google (referred to as the “Software” below). This license is for the sole purpose of enabling you to use and enjoy the benefit of the Services as provided by Google, in the manner permitted by the Terms.

9.2 Subject to section 1.2, you may not (and you may not permit anyone else to) copy, modify, create a derivative work of, reverse engineer, decompile or otherwise attempt to extract the source code of the Software or any part thereof, unless this is expressly permitted or required by law, or unless you have been specifically told that you may do so by Google, in writing.

9.3 Subject to section 1.2, unless Google has given you specific written permission to do so, you may not assign (or grant a sub-license of) your rights to use the Software, grant a security interest in or over your rights to use the Software, or otherwise transfer any part of your rights to use the Software.

10. Content license from you

10.1 You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Services.

11. Software updates

11.1 The Software which you use may automatically download and install updates from time to time from Google. These updates are designed to improve, enhance and further develop the Services and may take the form of bug fixes, enhanced functions, new software modules and completely new versions. You agree to receive such updates (and permit Google to deliver these to you) as part of your use of the Services.

12. Ending your relationship with Google

12.1 The Terms will continue to apply until terminated by either you or Google as set out below.

12.2 Google may at any time, terminate its legal agreement with you if:

(A) you have breached any provision of the Terms (or have acted in manner which clearly shows that you do not intend to, or are unable to comply with the provisions of the Terms); or

(B) Google is required to do so by law (for example, where the provision of the Services to you is, or becomes, unlawful); or

(C) the partner with whom Google offered the Services to you has terminated its relationship with Google or ceased to offer the Services to you; or

(D) Google is transitioning to no longer providing the Services to users in the country in which you are resident or from which you use the service; or

(E) the provision of the Services to you by Google is, in Google’s opinion, no longer commercially viable.

12.3 Nothing in this Section shall affect Google’s rights regarding provision of Services under Section 4 of the Terms.

Beta

12.4 When these Terms come to an end, all of the legal rights, obligations and liabilities that you and Google have benefited from, been subject to (or which have accrued over time whilst the Terms have been in force) or which are expressed to continue indefinitely, shall be unaffected by this cessation, and the provisions of paragraph 19.7 shall continue to apply to such rights, obligations and liabilities indefinitely.

13. EXCLUSION OF WARRANTIES

13.1 NOTHING IN THESE TERMS, INCLUDING SECTIONS 13 AND 14, SHALL EXCLUDE OR LIMIT GOOGLE’S WARRANTY OR LIABILITY FOR LOSSES WHICH MAY NOT BE LAWFULLY EXCLUDED OR LIMITED BY APPLICABLE LAW. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF CERTAIN WARRANTIES OR CONDITIONS OR THE LIMITATION OR EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY FOR LOSS OR DAMAGE CAUSED BY NEGLIGENCE, BREACH OF CONTRACT OR BREACH OF IMPLIED TERMS, OR INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES. ACCORDINGLY, ONLY THE LIMITATIONS WHICH ARE LAWFUL IN YOUR JURISDICTION WILL APPLY TO YOU AND OUR LIABILITY WILL BE LIMITED TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.

13.2 YOU EXPRESSLY UNDERSTAND AND AGREE THAT YOUR USE OF THE SERVICES IS AT YOUR SOLE RISK AND THAT THE SERVICES ARE PROVIDED 'AS IS' AND “AS AVAILABLE.”

13.3 IN PARTICULAR, GOOGLE, ITS SUBSIDIARIES AND AFFILIATES, AND ITS LICENSORS DO NOT REPRESENT OR WARRANT TO YOU THAT:

(A) YOUR USE OF THE SERVICES WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS,

(B) YOUR USE OF THE SERVICES WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, TIMELY, SECURE OR FREE FROM ERROR,

(C) ANY INFORMATION OBTAINED BY YOU AS A RESULT OF YOUR USE OF THE SERVICES WILL BE ACCURATE OR RELIABLE, AND

(D) THAT DEFECTS IN THE OPERATION OR FUNCTIONALITY OF ANY SOFTWARE PROVIDED TO YOU AS PART OF THE SERVICES WILL BE CORRECTED.

13.4 ANY MATERIAL DOWNLOADED OR OTHERWISE OBTAINED THROUGH THE USE OF THE SERVICES IS DONE AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION AND RISK AND THAT YOU WILL BE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR COMPUTER SYSTEM OR OTHER DEVICE OR LOSS OF DATA THAT RESULTS FROM THE DOWNLOAD OF ANY SUCH MATERIAL.

13.5 NO ADVICE OR INFORMATION, WHETHER ORAL OR WRITTEN, OBTAINED BY YOU FROM GOOGLE OR THROUGH OR FROM THE SERVICES SHALL CREATE ANY WARRANTY NOT EXPRESSLY STATED IN THE TERMS.

13.6 GOOGLE FURTHER EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES AND CONDITIONS OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES AND CONDITIONS OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

14. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

14.1 SUBJECT TO OVERALL PROVISION IN PARAGRAPH 13.1 ABOVE, YOU EXPRESSLY UNDERSTAND AND AGREE THAT GOOGLE, ITS SUBSIDIARIES AND AFFILIATES, AND ITS LICENSORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR:

(II) ANY CHANGES WHICH GOOGLE MAY MAKE TO THE SERVICES, OR FOR ANY PERMANENT OR TEMPORARY CESSATION IN THE PROVISION OF THE SERVICES (OR ANY FEATURES WITHIN THE SERVICES);

14.2 THE LIMITATIONS ON GOOGLE’S LIABILITY TO YOU IN PARAGRAPH 14.1 ABOVE SHALL APPLY WHETHER OR NOT GOOGLE HAS BEEN ADVISED OF OR SHOULD HAVE BEEN AWARE OF THE POSSIBILITY OF ANY SUCH LOSSES ARISING.

15. Copyright and trade mark policies

15.1 It is Google’s policy to respond to notices of alleged copyright infringement that comply with applicable international intellectual property law (including, in the United States, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act) and to terminating the accounts of repeat infringers. Details of Google’s policy can be found at https://www.google.com/dmca.html.

15.2 Google operates a trade mark complaints procedure in respect of Google’s advertising business, details of which can be found at https://www.google.com/tm_complaint.html.

16. Advertisements

16.1 Some of the Services are supported by advertising revenue and may display advertisements and promotions. These advertisements may be targeted to the content of information stored on the Services, queries made through the Services or other information.

16.2 The manner, mode and extent of advertising by Google on the Services are subject to change without specific notice to you.

16.3 In consideration for Google granting you access to and use of the Services, you agree that Google may place such advertising on the Services.

17. Other content

17.1 The Services may include hyperlinks to other web sites or content or resources. Google may have no control over any web sites or resources which are provided by companies or persons other than Google.

17.2 You acknowledge and agree that Google is not responsible for the availability of any such external sites or resources, and does not endorse any advertising, products or other materials on or available from such web sites or resources.

17.3 You acknowledge and agree that Google is not liable for any loss or damage which may be incurred by you as a result of the availability of those external sites or resources, or as a result of any reliance placed by you on the completeness, accuracy or existence of any advertising, products or other materials on, or available from, such web sites or resources.

18. Changes to the Terms

18.1 Google may make changes to the Universal Terms or Additional Terms from time to time. When these changes are made, Google will make a new copy of the Universal Terms available at https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/privacy/eula_text.html and any new Additional Terms will be made available to you from within, or through, the affected Services.

18.2 You understand and agree that if you use the Services after the date on which the Universal Terms or Additional Terms have changed, Google will treat your use as acceptance of the updated Universal Terms or Additional Terms.

19. General legal terms

19.1 Sometimes when you use the Services, you may (as a result of, or in connection with your use of the Services) use a service or download a piece of software, or purchase goods, which are provided by another person or company. Your use of these other services, software or goods may be subject to separate terms between you and the company or person concerned. If so, the Terms do not affect your legal relationship with these other companies or individuals.

19.2 The Terms constitute the whole legal agreement between you and Google and govern your use of the Services (but excluding any services which Google may provide to you under a separate written agreement), and completely replace any prior agreements between you and Google in relation to the Services.

19.3 You agree that Google may provide you with notices, including those regarding changes to the Terms, by email, regular mail, or postings on the Services.

19.4 You agree that if Google does not exercise or enforce any legal right or remedy which is contained in the Terms (or which Google has the benefit of under any applicable law), this will not be taken to be a formal waiver of Google’s rights and that those rights or remedies will still be available to Google.

19.5 If any court of law, having the jurisdiction to decide on this matter, rules that any provision of these Terms is invalid, then that provision will be removed from the Terms without affecting the rest of the Terms. The remaining provisions of the Terms will continue to be valid and enforceable.

19.6 You acknowledge and agree that each member of the group of companies of which Google is the parent shall be third party beneficiaries to the Terms and that such other companies shall be entitled to directly enforce, and rely upon, any provision of the Terms which confers a benefit on (or rights in favor of) them. Other than this, no other person or company shall be third party beneficiaries to the Terms.

19.7 The Terms, and your relationship with Google under the Terms, shall be governed by the laws of the State of California without regard to its conflict of laws provisions. You and Google agree to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located within the county of Santa Clara, California to resolve any legal matter arising from the Terms. Notwithstanding this, you agree that Google shall still be allowed to apply for injunctive remedies (or an equivalent type of urgent legal relief) in any jurisdiction.

20. Additional Terms for Extensions for Google Chrome

20.1 These terms in this section apply if you install extensions on your copy of Google Chrome. Extensions are small software programs, developed by Google or third parties, that can modify and enhance the functionality of Google Chrome. Extensions may have greater privileges to access your browser or your computer than regular webpages, including the ability to read and modify your private data.

20.2 From time to time, Google Chrome may check with remote servers (hosted by Google or by third parties) for available updates to extensions, including but not limited to bug fixes or enhanced functionality. You agree that such updates will be automatically requested, downloaded, and installed without further notice to you.

20.3 From time to time, Google may discover an extension that violates Google developer terms or other legal agreements, laws, regulations or policies. Google Chrome will periodically download a list of such extensions from Google’s servers. You agree that Google may remotely disable or remove any such extension from user systems in its sole discretion.

21. Additional Terms for Enterprise Use

21.1 If you are a business entity, then the individual accepting on behalf of the entity (for the avoidance of doubt, for business entities, in these Terms, 'you' means the entity) represents and warrants that he or she has the authority to act on your behalf, that you represent that you are duly authorized to do business in the country or countries where you operate, and that your employees, officers, representatives, and other agents accessing the Service are duly authorized to access Google Chrome and to legally bind you to these Terms.

21.2 Subject to the Terms, and in addition to the license grant in Section 9, Google grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to reproduce, distribute, install, and use Google Chrome solely on machines intended for use by your employees, officers, representatives, and agents in connection with your business entity, and provided that their use of Google Chrome will be subject to the Terms.

Adobe

Google Chrome may include one or more components provided by Adobe Systems Incorporated and Adobe Software Ireland Limited (collectively “Adobe”). Your use of the Adobe software as provided by Google (“Adobe Software”) is subject to the following additional terms (the “Adobe Terms”). You, the entity receiving the Adobe Software, will be hereinafter referred to as “Sublicensee.”

1. License Restrictions.

(a) Flash Player, Version 10.x is designed only as a browser plug-in. Sublicensee may not modify or distribute this Adobe Software for use as anything but a browser plug-in for playing back content on a web page. For example, Sublicensee will not modify this Adobe Software in order to allow interoperation with applications that run outside of the browser (e.g., standalone applications, widgets, device UI).

(b) Sublicensee will not expose any APIs of the Flash Player, Version 10.x through a browser plug-in interface in such a way that allows such extension to be used to playback content from a web page as a stand-alone application.

(c) The Chrome-Reader Software may not be used to render any PDF or EPUB documents that utilize digital rights management protocols or systems other than Adobe DRM.

(d) Adobe DRM must be enabled in the Chrome-Reader Software for all Adobe DRM protected PDF and EPUB documents.

(e) The Chrome-Reader Software may not, other than as explicitly permitted by the technical specifications, disable any capabilities provided by Adobe in the Adobe Software, including but not limited to, support for PDF and EPUB formats and Adobe DRM.

2. Electronic Transmission. Sublicensee may allow the download of the Adobe Software from a web site, the Internet, an intranet, or similar technology (an, “Electronic Transmissions”) provided that Sublicensee agrees that any distributions of the Adobe Software by Sublicensee, including those on CD-ROM, DVD-ROM or other storage media and Electronic Transmissions, if expressly permitted, shall be subject to reasonable security measures to prevent unauthorized use. With relation to Electronic Transmissions approved hereunder, Sublicensee agrees to employ any reasonable use restrictions set by Adobe, including those related to security and/or the restriction of distribution to end users of the Sublicensee Product.

3. EULA and Distribution Terms.

(a) Sublicensee shall ensure that the Adobe Software is distributed to end users under an enforceable end user license agreement, in favor of Sublicensee and its suppliers containing at least each of the following minimum terms (the “End-User License”): (i) a prohibition against distribution and copying, (ii) a prohibition against modifications and derivative works, (iii) a prohibition against decompiling, reverse engineering, disassembling, and otherwise reducing the Adobe Software to a human-perceivable form, (iv) a provision indicating ownership of Sublicensee Product (as defined in Section 8) by Sublicensee and its licensors, (v) a disclaimer of indirect, special, incidental, punitive, and consequential damages, and (vi) other industry standard disclaimers and limitations, including, as applicable: a disclaimer of all applicable statutory warranties, to the full extent allowed by law.

(b) Sublicensee shall ensure that the Adobe Software is distributed to Sublicensee’s distributors under an enforceable distribution license agreement, in favor of Sublicensee and its suppliers containing terms as protective of Adobe as the Adobe Terms.

4. Opensource. Sublicensee will not directly or indirectly grant, or purport to grant, to any third party any rights or immunities under Adobe’s intellectual property or proprietary rights that will subject such intellectual property to an open source license or scheme in which there is or could be interpreted to be a requirement that as a condition of use, modification and/or distribution, the Adobe Software be: (i) disclosed or distributed in source code form; (ii) licensed for the purpose of making derivative works; or (iii) redistributable at no charge. For clarification purposes, the foregoing restriction does not preclude Sublicensee from distributing, and Sublicensee will distribute the Adobe Software as bundled with the Google Software, without charge.

5. Additional Terms. With respect to any update, upgrade, new versions of the Adobe Software (collectively “Upgrades”) provided to Sublicenses, Adobe reserves the right to require additional terms and conditions applicable solely to the Upgrade and future versions thereof, and solely to the extent that such restrictions are imposed by Adobe on all licensees of such Upgrade. If Sublicensee does not agree to such additional terms or conditions, Sublicensee will have no license rights with respect to such Upgrade, and Sublicensee’s license rights with respect to the Adobe Software will terminate automatically on the 90th day from the date such additional terms are made available to Sublicensee.

6. Proprietary Rights Notices. Sublicensee shall not, and shall require its distributors not to, delete or in any manner alter the copyright notices, trademarks, logos or related notices, or other proprietary rights notices of Adobe (and its licensors, if any) appearing on or within the Adobe Software or accompanying materials.

7. Technical Requirements. Sublicensee and its distributors may only distribute Adobe Software and/or Upgrade on devices that (i) meet the technical specifications posted on http://www.adobe.com/mobile/licensees, (or a successor web site thereto), and (ii) has been verified by Adobe as set forth below.

8. Verification and Update. Sublicensee must submit to Adobe each Sublicensee product (and each version thereof) containing the Adobe Software and/or Upgrade (“Sublicensee Product”) that do not meet the Device Verification exemption criteria to be communicated by Google, for Adobe to verify. Sublicensee shall pay for each submission made by Sublicensee by procuring verification packages at Adobe’s then-current terms set forth at http://flashmobile.adobe.com/. Sublicensee Product that has not passed verification may not be distributed. Verification will be accomplished in accordance with Adobe’s then-current process described at http://flashmobile.adobe.com/ (“Verification”).

9. Profiles and Device Central. Sublicensee will be prompted to enter certain profile information about the Sublicensee Products either as part of the Verification process or some other method, and Sublicensee will provide such information, to Adobe. Adobe may (i) use such profile information as reasonably necessary to verify the Sublicensee Product (if such product is subject to Verification), and (ii) display such profile information in “Adobe Device Intelligence system,” located at https://devices.adobe.com/partnerportal/, and made available through Adobe’s authoring and development tools and services to enable developers and end users to see how content or applications are displayed in Sublicensee Products (e.g. how video images appear in certain phones).

10. Export. Sublicensee acknowledges that the laws and regulations of the United States restrict the export and re-export of commodities and technical data of United States origin, which may include the Adobe Software. Sublicensee agrees that it will not export or re-export the Adobe Software, without the appropriate United States and foreign governmental clearances, if any.

11. Technology Pass-through Terms.

(a) Except pursuant to applicable permissions or agreements therefor, from or with the applicable parties, Sublicensees shall not use and shall not allow the use of, the Adobe Software for the encoding or decoding of mp3 audio only (.mp3) data on any non-pc device (e.g., mobile phone or set-top box), nor may the mp3 encoders or decoders contained in the Adobe Software be used or accessed by any product other than the Adobe Software. The Adobe Software may be used for the encoding or decoding of MP3 data contained within a swf or flv file, which contains video, picture or other data. Sublicensee shall acknowledge that use of the Adobe Software for non-PC devices, as described in the prohibitions in this section, may require the payment of licensing royalties or other amounts to third parties who may hold intellectual property rights related to the MP3 technology and that Adobe nor Sublicensee has not paid any royalties or other amounts on account of third party intellectual property rights for such use. If Sublicensee requires an MP3 encoder or decoder for such use, Sublicensee is responsible for obtaining the necessary intellectual property license, including any applicable patent rights.

(b) Sublicensee will not use, copy, reproduce and modify (i) the On2 source code (provided hereunder as a component of the Source Code) as necessary to enable the Adobe Software to decode video in the Flash video file format (.flv or .f4v), and (ii) the Sorenson Spark source code (provided hereunder as a component of the Source Code) for the limited purpose of making bug fixes and performance enhancements to the Adobe Software. All codecs provided with the Adobe Software may only be used and distributed as an integrated part of the Adobe Software and may not be accessed by any other application, including other Google applications.

(c) The Source Code may be provided with an AAC codec and/or HE-AAC codec (“the AAC Codec”). Use of the AAC Codec is conditioned on Sublicensee obtaining a proper patent license covering necessary patents as provided by VIA Licensing, for end products on or in which the AAC Codec will be used. Sublicensee acknowledges and agrees that Adobe is not providing a patent license for an AAC Codec under this Agreement to Sublicensee or its sublicensees.

(d) THE SOURCE CODE MAY CONTAIN CODE LICENSED UNDER THE AVC PATENT PORTFOLIO LICENSE FOR THE PERSONAL NON-COMMERCIAL USE OF A CONSUMER TO (i) ENCODE VIDEO IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE AVC STANDARD ('AVC VIDEO') AND/OR (ii) DECODE AVC VIDEO THAT WAS ENCODED BY A CONSUMER ENGAGED IN A PERSONAL NON-COMMERCIAL ACTIVITY AND/OR WAS OBTAINED FROM A VIDEO PROVIDER LICENSED TO PROVIDE AVC VIDEO. NO LICENSE IS GRANTED OR WILL BE IMPLIED FOR ANY OTHER USE. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION MAY BE OBTAINED FROM MPEG LA, L.L.C. See http://www.mpegla.com

12. Update. Sublicensee will not circumvent Google’s or Adobe’s efforts to update the Adobe Software in all Sublicensee’s products incorporating the Adobe Software as bundled with the Google Software (“Sublicensee Products”).

AppRadio — the next generation

Pioneer's innovative AppRadio platform moves forward with their SPH-DA120 AppRadio 4 receiver. This versatile Pioneer builds upon the impressive capabilities of the AppRadio 3 receiver by adding some new features, including compatibility with Apple CarPlay, an improved graphical user interface (GUI) that makes it easier to access and use your apps, along with dual USB inputs, an auxiliary input, and a complete set of preamp outputs — front, rear, and subwoofer.

Control your apps from the large 6.2' touchscreen.

AppRadioLIVE makes it easy

Pioneer's innovative AppRadioLIVE streamlines your app info and functions into one easy-to-use interface. You'll enjoy quick access to your music, media, calendar, and other sources you subscribe to, just by downloading the AppRadioLIVE app and syncing your services. AppRadioLIVE works with your apps to provide visual map guidance and access to points of interest, as well as the ability to search for concerts, shows, and other local events of interest. And you can show several sources of information simultaneously, quickly shifting from one to another with a touch of your finger.

And what apps can you take advantage of? You'll find plenty to enjoy, including MotionX-GPS Drive, INRIX® traffic, AUPEO! Personal Radio, Pandora® Internet radio, and Pioneer's MIXTRAX, with more coming down the road. The apps will look great on the 6.2' capacitive touchscreen, which recognizes all zoom, swipe, and pinch gestures just as if you were using your smartphone.

Note: AppRadio Mode and AppRadioLIVE are currently not compatible with iOS 8 due to stability and display issues. Please see 'Details' for more information.

Siri® Eyes Free

If you have an iPhone 4S or 5, you'll hear Siri's voice prompts through your vehicle's sound system, and you can make commands or ask questions through the microphone that's included with this receiver. You can set reminders, ask for songs, request directions, or anything else you'd normally do with your iPhone.

Works with Android™ phones

The AppRadio 3 doesn't leave Android by the wayside when it comes to features, either. App Mode supports many Android phones, and you can download a free Pioneer app that enables voice commands with your Android phone.

Talk hands-free and stream audio wirelessly with Bluetooth®

Built-in Bluetooth adds to the versatility of this cool receiver — pair your phone, and you'll be able to talk hands-free and access your phone book from the touchscreen. You can even stream audio from your smartphone to the receiver.

Want to keep your steering wheel controls?

In most cars, you'll need an adapter to retain those controls with this car stereo. Connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and radio, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. You'll see the adapters that work with your vehicle when you add this receiver to your cart.

Bluetooth note: Use of this receiver's Bluetooth features will depend upon your phone's Bluetooth capabilities. Learn more in our article explaining Bluetooth profiles.

iPod/smartphone note: If you're going to use your iPod or smartphone with this receiver, be sure to check 'Details' for compatibility information.

Complement your setup with a phone mount

The AppRadio 4 requires input from your iPhone from time to time — most notably when running the MotionX GPS Drive app. It's a good idea to mount your iPhone where it's easy to reach. Check out our selection of Pro.Fit mounts.

I came upon this one by accident, I was initially going for the NEX series and somehow found this gem. Compact disc are fazing out I am not bothered that this does not have one, but the key reason was my phone integration. I have a iPhone 6s Plus and heard about this app radio and how compatible it is with my iphone [ Aaron Jun 24, 2016 ]
Advisor reviewed several products comparatively, this one won. [ Richard May 11, 2016 ]
This radio is awesome for those who love the features of their phone and all the input options. Beware you cannot use a video bypass on this unit or a single pole double throw relay because this system takes too long to boot and the bypasses do their job before the radio is ready to detect them. However you can install a switch to do the job and it will work just fine. I love this unit, but I will say you need to read the Manuel because there is a learning curve on this one. [ william Mar 23, 2016 ]

up grade from my old pioneer dvh1400 dvd unit [ JEFFREY R Feb 10, 2016 ]
The Pioneer had all of the features that I was looking for in a video unit. I had specific needs, such as Android control, at least a 4volt preamplifier section, and the ability to play FLAC files while the phone was simultaneously hooked up. This unit had great reviews and was the best price for performance I found after many hours of research. [ Jason Feb 04, 2016 ]

Will this radio allow multiple Bluetooth connections? My iPad has the majority of my music downloaded, so I would prefer to connect my iPad for music
[ Michael Apr 10, 2017 ]
I believe that yes, it will allow for multiple Bluetooth pairings (we have a couple of i-phones that connect to the radio) but I don't believe it will allow them to be CONNECTED at the same time. But, if 1 I-phone is not around to connect, the other paired phone will connect and take over.
Yes it also auto connects to the last device used.
When radio is in CarPlay mode and using navigation (Apple Maps) the volume of the directions is substantially louder than the volume that the setting when listening to my music files or radio. Is there a special volume setting for the spoken directions when using Navigation? I even tried adjusting the navigation volume on my phone (tried when connected and unconnected) however that did not make any difference. The navigation volume is almost maxed out and yet the normal music or radio volume is set at like a 3 or 4 for comfortable listening even when the top is down.
[ Joe Apr 09, 2017 ]
This is difficult to adjust on the radio, because the volume for the alerts isn't visible when the alerts are not active. I had to call Crutchfield 4 times to finally get a representative who knew how to make this adjustment. If I recall correctly, when the alert is active, a pop up appears in the lower right corner, and clicking that will let you adjust the volume of the alerts. Dumbest thing I've ever seen.
Yes there is. Press the volume up button. When the volume bar appears look all the way to the right where it says alerts. Click on alerts and you can adjust the volume of the navigation volume. Hope I answered you questions.

I read a review that said the time to power up was slow (30 sec) and that the nav wouldn't allow you to set a destination or recalculate the route while moving. Is this correct? For startup, I'd consider adding a backup cam, but if I have to wait 30 sec after I start my truck, it will be useless. For Nav, I plan to use CarPlay and Apple Maps.
[ kert1 Apr 07, 2017 ]
This is not true at all. Start up is less than 3 seconds in my Tahoe. As for the navigation I use CarPlay and Apple maps
Do I have to hook up to the parking brake, if I don't plan to use any video features? I simply want to swap out my old head unit for audio and Apple CarPlay.
[ C Mar 07, 2017 ]
No, you don't have to wire it to the brake in order to use it, that's only if you want to use the video features.

Can use Waze mapping app with Pioneer SPH-DA120 AppRadio 4 using car play?
[ Keith Feb 11, 2017 ]

The supported Apple products section doesn't show that the iPhone 7 is supported, but also says that that list was most recently updated 1/1/2016. Is the iPhone 7 now supported?
[ Blake Jan 19, 2017 ]
I have a 7 it works okay
All iphones are supported. Im using my iphone 7 plus woth this unit
I have yet to update for firmware and my sons iphone 7 worked fine recently. I use a 6s regularly and it's fine. It's also important to note this radio works great with just Bluetooth pairing on the pioneer side of the software (not carplay).
I use it with my iPhone 7 ..works great

Can I sync two phones to the unit via bluetooth?
[ PAUL Dec 23, 2016 ]
Unfortunately no. You can only sync one phone at a time via Bluetooth. I believe this is a Bluetooth protocol limitation and not a function of the stereo. That said, the app radio will store multiple phones in memory so that whatever family member is driving, their phone will automatically connect.
I havent tried it simultaneously, but it can save multiple phones
Looking to find out about running multiple apps. Sirrus, 2 UBER apps and Google maps which is connected to UBER?
[ Paul Dec 05, 2016 ]
Not sure about that.I know that you can not work XM with this head set.
Can the stereo use the factory mic that is already in my car or do I have to use the mic that comes with this?
[ Bryan Dec 04, 2016 ]
Yes and no. You would have an understanding of your cars radio/audio wiring diagram and what all that mic is connected to. Lots of newer cars use the drivers mic as input for sound canceling. If the diagram only shows the mic going to the factory radio then it is a possibility. You would have to make sure the factory mic wires are the same as the wires in a 2.5mm rca and make the right connections and it may work. You may also look for a wiring harness for your car that has the 2.5mm rca on it already, not sure if that's a thing. But it is a possibility, just don't do anything you aren't 100% sure of or beyond your skill level. Good luck.
Does it use the phones mic or a built in one? Do phone calls play through car speakers or phone speaker? How is phone call quality?
[ Erin Oct 26, 2016 ]
Hi, It uses a small mic that comes with the unit, I installed mine on top of my steering column. directly in front of me. you do have to speak loudly if there is any kind of external noise all in ll it works decent, not great but decent. I can't for the life of me figure out how to set the clock on the unit, it won't let me set the minutes, just a heads up
The headunit has an external mic. The phone's mic is not used. Call audio is through car speakers. Call quality is good.
I have the iPhone 7 and like a sheep I am forced to upgrade to a bluetooth system for my car. I'm not looking to let go of quality, so will this device sync up wirelessly to my device every time I get into it without having to do anything extra?
[ Justin Oct 11, 2016 ]
This head unit does not support wireless CarPlay, but it uses the lightning connector on your phone for all CarPlay features including phone calls. Your installer or you can route the USB extension cable that comes with this to somewhere convienient in your car and you use a standard USB to Lightning (charging) cable to connect your phone to the head unit. Because the connection is direct it's usually better than Bluetooth performance.
This receiver does not support wireless CarPlay, you have to plug it in to connect. I have not found that to be an inconvenience.
If I have an iPhone paired via Bluetooth and another iPhone plugged in via USB for CarPlay, will the receiver allow me to answer/make calls from the the iPhone connected via Bluetooth?
[ John Sep 06, 2016 ]
It's gonna let you make and answer calls with the phone you have pairs via Bluetooth. Personally I've never tried to plug two iPhones into the device. You should just plug your iPhone that you make calls with into the radio with the appropriate cord per model and use Apple car play, it's freakin awesome. Though you have to have an iPhone 5 or newer for that.
Beta frontiers hondo download chromebook Is this deck's USB connections rated at USB 2.0 or USB 3.0?
[ Jim S. Sep 04, 2016 ]
It is rated at USB 2.0 specifications. HTH!My Bio: http://www.crutchfield.com/Support/Bio.aspx?bio=101
Can i upgrade the software on the radio to allow apple car play to recognize the latest software from apple?
[ Rondinsd Aug 22, 2016 ]
Yes.
every time CarPlay starts, you have to say 'ok' to the safety warning. I thought I read somewhere that you could answer it the one time and not have to do it again, but I've looked in settings and can't find it.?
[ Jengiantkiller Jul 30, 2016 ]
CarPlay is. It a function of the AppRadio itself it's a function of your iPhone. You can go into your phone settings and make custom adjustments on how CarPlay works and stuff. Just make sure you have the correct wires for your phone and your radio is set up for your phone and it's connections. Good luck

I have Apple Music am I still gonna be able to use it?
[ Ryan Jul 09, 2016 ]
Yes, all the music function work.
Yes. It works fine with Apple Music. I was using it with Apple Music before I switched over to Spotify. Nothing against the head unit just issues I had with Apple Music itself.
Yes you will. Apple radio as well.
Does this receiver have a built in HD radio tuner?
[ Kyle W Jul 03, 2016 ]
yep
What cable(s) will I need in order to use both Apple Carplay and Appradio?
[ Antonio Jun 23, 2016 ]
For Carplay connect the standard USB iphone lightning cable to USB port 1 of the Appradio unit. to use Appradio you will need an additional iphone lightning cable, HDMI cable and Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter. Plug your iphone cable to USB port 2 of the appradio unit for this set-up. Personally the Appradio is not worth the trouble but Car play works great if you like Apple apps.
Is this unit conpatible with any aftermaerket wireless reverse camera? If so, can someone provide make/models of them.
[ Plato Jun 10, 2016 ]
For that type of installation I would definitely recommend reaching out to one of our Product Advisors by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat. They will be able to help determine what would work best for your needs and system.
Thanks for your question. Yes any receiver with a composite video rear-view camera input such as this Pioneer will work. On the main product page for this Pioneer receiver click on the 'Accessories' tab and choose the sub menu option: Rear-view and Auxiliary Cameras, and you will see a good size list of compatible cameras. They range in price from 59.99 to 169.99. Hope that helps.

What features are unavailable while parking brake is disengaged? And can I can simply ground the wire to bypass this?
[ Mike May 05, 2016 ]
For legal reasons and safety concerns, this unit has a parking brake interlock system that prohibits viewing of video programming when the vehicle is in motion. In order to watch video on the in-dash monitor, the vehicle must be stopped with the parking brake engaged. The head unit's light green wire must be connected to your vehicle's parking brake detection circuit. The head unit's touchscreen will display 'Attention! Viewing of front seat video source while driving is strictly prohibited', if you try to watch a video when your vehicle is in motion.I hope that helps.
I just purchased the radio as is, no wires, no nothing. What all does this unit come with brand new in the box so I can go about buying them?
[ Rene Apr 10, 2016 ]
Go to the Pioneer website, pull up the radio, and look for what is included in the box. Then contact crutchfield and see if they have any installation kits for your vehicle. That should give you an idea of what you need. Also, the manual can be downloaded on Pioneer's site.
Not sure it's been a while. I would contact Pioneer with radio model number they should have all the details on it.
Can I play music through my iPod and run car play for like maps at the same time? Wether I can play music from my iPod either by usb or by bluetooth audio, and then use maps on my iPhone and basically play the music while using maps? hopes this makes sense
[ Hector Mar 01, 2016 ]
You can music on the iPhones and use maps. I've never tried two devices plunged in
Yes, it will do two things at once. Be aware though that to have full functionality your phone must connect via USB.
Using just one iPhone, yes I do that all the time via lightening connector. The music dims and the directions play on top. You can even use Waze and you will still get voice prompts, you just won't see it on the screen. It does not work with the pioneer radio. From my experience it seems you either use Car Play or you use the pioneer side. There may be a way with the Pioneer App radio stuff but I have not played with it enough. I have not tried using two devices yet. I imagine it will not work as it's probably like using the radio - CarPlay locks in on one device. I will try later this week as I do have two cables connected and will confirm my findings.
It sounds like you are asking if you can listen to music at the same time use gps navigation, with both functions served by your iPhone (iPods don't have gps). If that is the question, yes. CarPlay is basically a big touchscreen for your phone. If your phone can do it, it will continue to work that way.
Your phone has to be plugged in for maps to work. Music will play via usb through CarPlay at this time and will cut in when needed to advise on map directions.
I have not used the Bluetooth feature yet but I can tell you that you can play music on your iPhone and use the map feature at the same time.
Yes u can do both at the same time and is one of the best unit i have not regreted purchasing , you will really love its performance too
Once you plug in your IPhone to use CarPlay all other sources donot work. CarPlay will play music from your IPhone and do maps at the same time. The radio is the only other source that will play while in CarPlay mode.
If what you're asking is can you run two inputs at once, being iPhone for CarPlay functions and an iPod for music, the answer is no. The unit only allows you to have one Input at a time.
Can you use the maps app for turn by turn directions and listen to music from the phone at the same time?
[ Cheryl Feb 26, 2016 ]
Yes. You can have music playing from the Music app, Pandora, or Spotify and use the Maps app at the same time. If you're in one of music apps to change a song or whatever reason, it will place a Maps app icon on the top left of the screen for you to easily switch back to view your directions.
Yes you can have map directions and listen to pandora Spotify or and aux input at the same time
Yes
Yes you can.
Yes you can
Its been a long time since i upgraded my radio.i like what i see here but what keeps someone from stealing this. are we to cross our fingers and just hope for luck?
[ roc22 Feb 25, 2016 ]
If someone wanted to steal it, they would have disassemble the dash to get to the mounting bolts. on the inside.
If you use the stock screws for the head unit and if someone knows how to remove the central dash vents in my Mazda 3, it would be pretty easy to steal. I would look into some non-standard screws that require a special tool for removal and you would be good.
There is no anti-theft mechanism of which I am aware.

Will the AM/FM radio work with Australian frequencies, Why is this model not available in Australia and is their any other incompatibilities?
[ Tim Feb 16, 2016 ]
All the radios we carry are designed specifically to work with vehicles released in the United States and tune all US/North American AM & FM frequencies. There are some models we carry that also offer European tuning which lets you tune to the European interval of .05 kHz on the FM frequency band; however, this Pioneer AppRadio 4 does not support European tuning. You may want to try looking on Pioneer's Australian website to find a retailer in your area for more info: http://www.pioneer.com.au/au/products/25/page.html
This firmware update should be applied only to AVH-4000NEX and AppRadio4 (SPH-DA120) units sold in the United States and Canada. Installation on any other product could cause irreversible damage. what happens if i bought this from the UK?

Yes, it works in my iPhone 6 using the same iOS version.
Yes. This will work with iOS 9 on your iPhone 6. I use this with my iPhone 6s on 9.0.2. I mainly use it for CarPlay so I don't know how the Appradio portion works. But CarPlay works with lightning devices on iOS 8.1 +.

Does AppRadio Unchained work with the AppRadio 4? I saw mention of it in the reviews for AppRadio3, being the app that made the radio actually work to its full potential. Also, how does this one compare to the AppRadio3? I'm not finding a lot of info online comparing the 2. I have a 3 and haven't installed it yet; wondering if I should upgrade to the new one before install.
[ Peter Dec 19, 2015 ]
AppRadio Unchained Reloaded does with with the appradio 4 but you have to have a rooted phone im pretty sure not matter what radio you use the app with. the last i looked they added support for the external GPS antenna to be used instead of the phones so that it would get better accuracy and not drain the phones power. Ive used on a rooted motorolla droid 4 it and it works with my appradio 4 although the phone itself is old and slow. Id advise to read people reviews of the appradio unchained reloaded app as it also has pros and cons to be tailored to your personal needs. The main reason i went with the appradio 4 over the 3 was because it played FLAC files natively from a USB stick. It also has support for apple carplay if you have an iphone. the buttons are also different but if i already had an appradio 3 with a rooted phone i think playing FLAC files from the phone over the MHL connection would sound good enough. unless you have an iphone i would not think it would be worth the upgrade costs.
IVe only had the 4 and I can confirm that it does work. Though depending on the phone you have, it may be cumbersome to set up or just simply not work. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, and it refuses to work with that phone because of the extra resolution along the edge of the screen I am told. I does work on the Note 3. Have not tested any other phones.

Does this support wireless CarPlay?
[ Santiagohlunah Nov 06, 2015 ]
Nope. Does not have Wi-Fi to support this.
not sure first time I heard about wireless Apple play. I went on pioneer his website and there is a firmware update that involves Apple play. I'll be installing that in the near future possibly I can let you know then
Sorry, the Bluetooth works for music and telephone.
I may be mistaken but I do not think so. The Bluetooth connection seems to be strictly for telephone usage. CarPlay only comes on when the cable is attached.
No
Really interested in this device to install in a 95 Corvette coupe. Been reading a lot of reviews. The only negative I saw that bothered me, was reviewer said it is 'crazy' bright and the display can not be dimmed, which is a distraction at night. Not all reviews are accurate. Do you know if this is true? Thank you. Also, considering the Alpine iLX-007. Having a hard time making up my mind.
[ David Oct 24, 2015 ]
It can be dimmed it in the settings. This receiver has a lot of functions that you wouldn't believe. It's definitely worth the buy!!!!
Well, I have numerous complaints about this device, but the brightness of the screen is not among them. I don't believe you can adjust the brightness of the screen, but it does not seem overly bright to me. My issues with this device are 1. software related to CarPlay by Apple and 2. just specific to this device. I'm not totally sure which category each complaint falls into; the reader can decide.Complaint 1: It randomly stops using CarPlay and defaults to the Pioneer interface.Complaint 2: The Pioneer interface sucks for plugging in and playing from the iPhone (though the Bluetooth works great). I have had this device for about 10 months now and have yet to play songs while the phone is plugged in to charge, through the Pioneer interface.Complaint 3: The touchscreen is persnickety. It's probably not_that_bad, but since it looks like an Apple screen, when you touch it you expect it to have Apple quality, and well, it just does not.Complaint 4: If you want to use a different map / directions app other than the standard iOS Map, you are out of luck (if you want to use it with your phone plugged in and for the map to work on the screen of the Pioneer).Complaint 5: The iOS interface for Music & Now Playing is not that great compared to the interface on the iPhone or iPad after recent updates. Specifically, most of the functionality of Apple Music is lost on the Pioneer or it is simply to difficult to navigate while driving.I will say that, using the CarPlay interface for sending and receiving texts works great. It reads your text to you and you speak your response. However, you cannot send/receive texts in this way using the Pioneer interface. And, have I mentioned before that the unit inexplicably reverts to the Pioneer interface at random?Overall, when considering purchasing this, ask yourself what you really want it for? I don't know if it functions any better or worse than other models that allow CarPlay.
The wire harness does have a connection for the vehicles dimmer. However, when I try to adjust the brightness through the vehicle dash dimmer control nothing happens. There is a brightness setting built into the radio itself that can be accessed through the menus. The level that I have mine set to is not at all distracting. You just can't control it directly from the vehicle dimmer. I owned this head unit for a few months before it was stolen. I replaced it with a Pioneer AVH-4100NEX. Cost a bit more but WELL worth the extra money. If you can afford the extra I would recommend it over the AppRadio. If the higher price is a problem then I say the AppRadio is still a great radio.
This is a fantastic unit. They are correct that it is bright and I have not found a way to dim down the display, however you can chance the color scheme to somethings little less distractive at night or upload your own background to something you like.

When I connect my iPhone 6s Plus via lightning cable, I can play music but Siri is muted and I also can't hear the voice of people on the phone. I have the same problem when connected via Bluetooth. Siri can hear me and responds to commands but I can't hear anything she says. Is this a phone setting or a Pioneer setting?
[ Nick Oct 18, 2015 ]
Make sure you have the right audio source selected on your phone. Siri may be responding because your phone can hear you and not your car mic.
I had the same problem. Turn the volume up on the stereo right after you bring Siri up. For some reason Siri volume is controlled separate from the stereo volume.
I am having the same issues sporadically. Pioneer did release a 1.09 firmware update which I haven't installed and that it may solve this. Hope this helps.

Mine freezies up a lot while driving and have to restart car for it to work again. And to get any app too continually work is impossible. can you still use your phone to switch music and stuff or do i have to do it all through the Carplay reciever?
[ artem Sep 01, 2015 ]
Although not recommended to use your phone while driving. It is still able to change apps in CarPlay mode. I do this when a non car play app needs to be accessed.
You can use your phone. Whatever you do on your phone will happen in real time on the AppRadio as long as it is an app supported by the radio (an app that 'exists' on the radio).
You can use either the radio's interface, the CarPlay interface (iPhone), or the Appradio interface, depending on what is connected (iPhone or Android), and how it is connected (there are multiple connections). Without a smartphone connected you can still use the radio and an iPod (if connected instead) for music. I hope this helps.
Yes, you can switch music from your phone and you can use the home button to activate Seri but you cannot adjust the volume with the phone.
Yes you can still use your phone to move around to the various functions (e.g., call, messages, music, podcasts, maps, etc.). However it is far easier and safer in my opinion to use the touch screen on the Carplay receiver.
You can use your phone to do what you want.
You can use either. Carplay only understands some things.. if you switch to an app it doesn't understand it simply 'ignores' that app and gives you the main menu. The iPhone works like it always works.
Why would you want to?The answer is yes. Your phone is still accessible in CarPlay mode.
Yes, at least through an iPhone.
Yes, you can use your phone, and it's often faster to do so. I recently figured out that the best way to use CarPlay is to start playing something on your iPhone BEFORE you plug it into CarPlay. It takes a solid 60-90 seconds for CarPlay to boot up and the iPhone and head unit are completely unusable during that time.Honestly, you should probably wait for newer units that support Wi-Fi and hopefully work faster, I've been pretty frustrated with CarPlay so far. If you do go ahead and buy it, make sure you get the kit to connect it to your steering wheel controls. Using Siri is a PITA from the screen because you have to tap and hold the home button and the screen is terrible at figuring out what you're trying to do.
You can change the music either way- using the phone or the receiver. Both when connected and when not connected via bluetooth.
I have this for my 2013 Impala and the dash kit isn't fitting that well. What should I do? Get a new dash kit?

Can you disable the feature that reads your texts outloud?
[ Lee Jul 16, 2015 ]
Just don't touch the banner.
This is what happens when you get an incoming text.-A banner across the top appears for 30 second or so-Touching the banner will open Siri and she will say 'NAME' has said..- Then ask you if youd like to reply-However if you do not touch the banner she will not read the messageSo to answer you question, I am not totally sure if you can turn it completely off, but you can just not click the banner.

Have the iOS 8 issues been resolved yet?
[ Dominick May 21, 2015 ]
I don't know, I returned this radio without installing it.
Please note that I have only been using the default CarPlay settings, not integrating with the Pioneer apps.
I have been using this unit for about 4 months now and I don't have any problems with IOS8. Love the unit.
The issues with iOS 8 are exclusively with CarPlay. As Apple comes out with updates, CarPlay will get better. With the latest update (8.3), CarPlay has gotten much better, not perfect, but still awesome. I Think this thing is the best option on the market.
What is are the overall dimensions of the unit?
[ Mark May 05, 2015 ]
This unit will fit any standard location provided you have an installation kit.
It is a standard double din 7 inch.
So, I'm confused. I purchased (it's a January 2015 build) this unit and am trying to figure out what the most current firmware is for the head unit. In the more info screen, it tells me that I have v. 1.08 already installed but on the Pioneer support page, the latest version that shows there is v. 1.07. What gives..which is it?
[ Chris Apr 26, 2015 ]
Pioneer says v 1.07 and v.1.08 are the same; the numbering is for bookkeeping purposes:'Thank you for contacting Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc.There is no difference between the two updates. It was just a way for us to know production time of the units and they are identical so you will not see a 1.08 update available for download for these units.'

Will the screen on the unit dim automatically when the headlights are turned on, similarly to how the gauges dim? And, if it doesn't occur automatically, is there 'one touch' button that would take care of this when needed? Thanks
[ Jon Apr 23, 2015 ]
Other posters have mentioned this but there is a wire on some harnesses that you can connect and then set the dimmer brightness when the lights are turned on and set a different level when they are turned off. Even though my Lexus RX330 had this wire, and was connected, it did not work on my vehicle. So, at the moment, I'm just going to fry and find a single setting that works well for the daytime and doesn't blind me at night :)
there is an illumination wire that you connect to a wire that comes on when you turn on your lights (Mine has one in the radio harness already) When connected and the lights are on, you can adjust night brightness to your liking. Then turn the lights off and adjust day time brightness. Without the illumination wire connected it is a manual process. Just find a wire that goes +12v when lights are turned on and life is good. Before I hooked it up I was blinded and miserable. the setting up of this is not entirely obvious that the settings are being saved for each state of lights on and lights off. It does work fine. The manual helps but its a download.
It automatically dims. Alternatively, you can turn off the screen.
No it doesn't and there is no 'one touch' button either. You can go into the settings and dim the display but that's about it. I hope someone comes out with a DMR with knobs. Touchscreens are not good in cars while your operating the automoble. Every time you have to interact with the device you have to take your eyes off the road (to change the volume, for example). I might as well use the iPhone. Siri works sometimes.
Didn't notice if it dims at night .the screen stays the same . Love this deck
it will dim if you have the appropriate wire connected. The amount it dims by is configurable in the radio settings. I'm not sure if there's a manual dim control if the headlight signal isn't connected
There is a dimming wire that will handle this when your headlights go on. I'm not sure if you can fine tune it (I'd like it to dim even more), but it does dim when you turn on your headlights.
Hi Jon O. I am not sure the screen has that dimming feature but I've never found the screen to be a problem as far as brightness. It is worth looking into. Pioneer has a decent support center I think. Perhaps you can ask there or download the manual and read through it. There is a feature that allows you to turn off the screen though, although I've never done this because I think the screen looks cool.
Yes, assuming you connect the wire from the head unit to the appropriate wire in your car.

Will this item work with the IPhone 4s or do I have to have the 5s to use it with my phone?
[ Bo Mar 16, 2015 ]
It work with any iphone that has the Carplay app., Lightning connector and the 7.1 or later OS. I'm sure about iphone 4s.
It's based on iOS version.Apple CarPlay is available as an update to iOS 7 and works with Lightning-enabled iPhones, including iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c and iPhone 5. CarPlay will be available in select cars shipping in 2014.
Bo, Your iPhone 4s will work with this receiver. However, the CarPlay functionality of the receiver will only work for the iPhone 5 or newer devices. Without CarPlay, you still have all the great Pioneer appradio applications, stored music playback, and Pandora, as well as Bluetooth hands-free calling. Since the CarPlay feature of this receiver isn't of immediate use to you, you may want to check out the other appradio receivers Pioneer offers. If your next phone upgrade is coming soon and you plan on sticking with Apple, I strongly recommend this receiver.
My question is when having your iphone connected using carplay and listening to fm radio. If I am listening to the pioneer fm tuner do the carplay features not work anymore without switching inputs?
[ JamesB Mar 15, 2015 ]
Hello,I do not use the fm radio, but when I am listening to a USB stick in 1 USB and my iPhone is in the other USB all of the CarPlay notifications work such as map directions, text message notifications and incoming calls. I would assume that the same holds true for fm radio.
Carplay features continue to work without switching inputs. You only need to press the display screen for whatever other function you desire (e.g., Messages, Phone, Maps, etc.) by touching the mode function button on the left colum to get you back to the CarPlay screen.Simply stated, once your phone is linked with the Pioneer SPH-DA120 AppRadio with the USB cable, you navigate around the touch screen to whatever function you desire.
correct - iphone still works but it uses the crappy pioneer interface instead.
I have never used the analog FM radio. Any radio I have listened to is through the select digital stations that are in the internet radio section of Airplay, like ESPN radio or NPR, for example.
The carplay features still work with the fm tuner on. It mutes the sound if you need to speak and sound becomes audible after siri completes doing her thing.
You can have an fm station playing while using car play - including using apple maps with full functionality.
Mine does. While listening to FM, I hit the mode button, then select the Carplay icon. Then I can view my navigation or make a call through my contacts, etc.
I am just wanting to use CarPlay. What cables will need bought in order to enable full funcionality of my Iphone 5s?

Does the radio keep your phone charged while using Nav. I know it plugs in via lightning cable, but does using CarPlay drain the battery faster than it is being charged?
[ matternrj Jan 30, 2015 ]
It does provide a small amount of power by todays standards to 'charge a device' but its so low that most devices with bluetooth / gps /wireless or even just playing music/streaming would probably drain just as fast or even faster then the unit could power it at. They do make third party breakout usb cables for some phones that will allow you to connect your phone to a secondary charging device while keeping the data portion connected to another.
Using the built in Sony USB it does NOT keep my Samsung Note 3 charged while using GPS.The phone keeps draining. I don't think it would make a full day driving.
The battery does charge even when using Apple Carplay.
Another few questions. I live in a state with spotty mobile service. What happens if you are navigating using Maps and your service/data drops? Will it cache the data needed to get me where I am going or will it just stop directing until I have data (and having missed turns)?
[ Randy Jan 26, 2015 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: Where this receiver uses your phone to run the amp and moves the controls/display to itself, it will not work without cell service on the phone. You may have a few seconds of cached data, but I would not expect anything real useful. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
How does the iPhone lock/unlock/sleep affect the CarPlay functionality? If your phone locks while listening to iTunes for example and later you want to engage the map nav function, do you have to unlock the phone, or is the iPhone PW automatically disabled once connected to the Pioneer interface? Likewise, does the iPhone 'wake' automatically if in sleep mode when the Pioneer screen is touched?
[ Keith Jan 22, 2015 ]
The phone doesn't lock when it's connected to the app radio and is in CarPlay mode. Whatever you do on the radio does not show up on the phone. It appears as it functions independently even though the app radio uses your iPhone as the brains.
Once the lightning cable is plugged in, all phone/music/map functionality is run through the AppRadio. There is no need to handle the phone unless you want to look at an app on the phone that isn't supported by the AppRadio (of which there are many). However, listening to music, receiving & sending texts via Siri Eyes Free (which is really cool) and map functionality is all on the head unit. Those things are really all you need to be messing with while driving anyhow. BTW, with two extra adapters available from Crutchfield and Apple you can stream Netflix, Hulu etc. to the AppRadio. Just sayin'
The phone will not lock once it is unlocked and plugged in to the Pioneer unless you take the key out of the ignition. If you turn off the car and leave the phone plugged in, it may ask you to unlock your iPhone in order to utilize carplay when you put the key back in and the radio reboots. Without unlocking the phone, you will be limited to the radio and other non-carplay functions of the radio. If you want it to wake automatically all the time, you have to disable the automatic lock on the phone, I would imagine. Hope this helps.
Can I use my iPhone without CarPlay, just Bluetooth for streaming music and receiving phone calls? I understand you can, but do you have to go into the settings and change the input? Thanks!
[ Tristan Jan 18, 2015 ]
Yes you can just use Bluetooth audio and receive phone calls just make sure you have the mic hooked up that came with the reciever. You just select Bluetooth audio in the with the drop down arrow. Fyi I think using Bluetooth audio the volume does not come through as loud as a aux cord
Car play only works when it's plugged in and Bluetooth works when car play is not plugged in. Bluetooth works like normal Bluetooth with songs and calls.
Yes. You can stream music through Bluetooth. Unless you plug your phone in and start CarPLay, it will play through Bluetooth by default (once your phone is detected / connected).
You can have the bluetooth connection set to auto-connect. That way when you turn your car on you can stream music and make phone calls without doing anything. You cannot use bluetooth while using carplay, but if auto-connect is enabled, simply disconnect your iPhone from the lightning cable and you'll be able to stream music and make/receive phone calls via bluetooth automatically.Note: In order to stream music you will have to change the audio source of the receiver to 'Bluetooth'. Just like any other audio source.
Can you have an iPod (160gb) attached playing music and have an Iphone attached for navigation?
[ Nathan Jan 16, 2015 ]
I believe you can, yes. There are two usb ports in the back of the radio and the radio should allow you to access either device. There is also a rear setting on the radio that may allow you to play two things at once if you have a video screen in the rear seat. I have not set that up yet but I think it is an option.
No I was told IS08 is not hasn't been updated
So according to the multiple disclaimers on this page, and the linked message from Pioneer, AppRadio and AppRadio Live do NOT work with devices running iOS 8.Is that correct? If that's the case, doesn't that basically defeat the purpose of this head unit? Can someone running iOS 8 confirm which features do and do not work?Specifically, navigation, phone, calendar?I'm a little shocked, and hoping I'm just misunderstanding the message. Please let me know what the deal is here!
[ Stephen H Jan 10, 2015 ]
Clicking App radio mode sends the device into the default Pioneer mode. To date the only app I have attempted to run was Pandora, which had some issues (refusing to load). The CarPlay mode however, works as advertised aside from some issues that still need to be addressed via software update (map mode operating sometimes in vertical mode, music app launch sometimes crashing). That said, when the unit is running bug free (98% of the time) Navigation, phone, calendar, basically all of the CarPlay functions work as described, which has negated much desire on my part to delve into the App Radio functions.
I don't use the calendar while I'm driving but as far as music, phone calls, texts, and maps apps go they all work just fine. I'm unaware of any features not working with iOS 8 and I've had this radio installed about a month now.
I thought this was weird as well. I am running it with iOS 8.1.2 and the only issue I have seen is with the 'Hey Siri' feature. When you say 'Hey Siri', she pops up and the screen says 'What Can I Help You With' and then promptly ignores anything you say and disappears. This is the only time it doesn't work though. Everything else is works just fine. Really cool stuff. My i Phone is my work phone. My personal is a Galaxy S4 and while I can also hook it up in AppRadio mode, CarPlay is far superior. I'm an Adnroid guy, but in this case the iPhone is a much smoother experience. Get it, you won't be disappointed!
You may want to look at the nex series in case this unit doesn't work for carplay. I bought this for my son and he has a 4s iPhone which doesn't have the carplay feature ?? the unit is nice but if it doesn't give you all of the features you're looking for you'll be stuck with something you hate. At least with one of the nex series units you can add on what you need if the CarPlay doesn't function.
It works, but the apps that are compatible with 8 are limited. This unit supports Apple CarPlay which is vastly superior. It works with phone, messages and navigation. I have never tried calendar. It also works with 3rd party apps such as pandora and spotify. I'm not sure which phones other than 6 support CarPlay, it's the only phone I've tried.
Sorry I didn't buy it for app radio I bought it for car play and it works excellent for car play my iPhone six syncs up seamlessly and the radio is very responsive
I use it running 8.1.2 without any troubles. All the features using carplay work fine. I don't use any of the appradio features. You can plug into the unit and run carplay for navigation, messaging using Siri, making phone calls, etc. I also use Bluetooth to connect wirelessly to stream music from my phone.
Yes. The pioneer app radio apps are not compatible with iOS 8. However, I don't use those apps anyway since the radio has carplay. I have an iPhone 6 with iOS 8 and I use the pioneer radio with carplay entirely. All the apps are the iOS CarPlay apps. The app radio is a pioneer OS that is not compatible with iOS 8. Although, I don't think I missed anything or used it ever. The only apps I used are from the CarPlay. Once you plug in your iOS 8 iPhone, the CarPlay interface starts up and you can now then use the apple maps, iMessage, music, spotify, podcasts, Iheart radio, cbs radio, phone and Siri.
Features seem to work fine, but I use this head unit exclusively in CarPlay mode. Everything about CarPlay works perfectly.
Awesome! Thanks a ton for the quick informative answers guys!
All of those features work via CarPlay a different system than the AppRadio. The AppRadio features haven't been updated to support iOS 8 yet. However navigation, phone, music, messages/SMS, and confirmed Calendar notifications all work through CarPlay. also any App that asserts itself into CarPlay like pandora, spotify and Rdio.
If your running IOS 8 then The apps that have a keyboard are useless.. However apple CarPlay works but I do miss my appradio apps for video and waze
Stephen,This pertains to the App Radio function of the receiver. Using the Apple CarPlay functionality of the receiver the navigation and messaging do work. One thing to be aware of is the on screen keyboard is still not operational for some apps. In the case of navigation, this is easily circumvented by entering the destination on the phone prior to starting navigation. Unless the navigation destination is in recents. Messaging is all dictated with your voice so no issues there. As for the calendar, I haven't tried this function out, but if you can avoid using a keyboard and input everything using voice commands I think it should work.
I use ios8 without problems.. I don't think calendar works, but I have not tried either.. I use CarPlay, but I will be trying out app radio this weekend.
I'm confused about all the extra adapters that are needed to play video on this thing. I would just like to know what this app radio does if I plug my iPhone into it with my lightning cable as far as what shows up on the touchscreen when texting and phone calls and Siri. My music and video will be played from a usb stick. Basically what would I be losing if i did not purchase the sold separately adapters?

I'm confused about the difference between AppRadio mode and MirrorLink. I'm on an android device, so please direct answers about using Android, not IOS. I'll be using an iPod Classic via a 30-pin connector. I don't have nor do I stream music on my phone - it's all on the iPod.Navigation is what I'm most concerned with. I want to use Google Maps like I do on my phone, but on the receiver, and be able to listen to music while getting turn-by-turn directions, and retain voice search in maps. So I'm trying to understand which connection method I should use.So let me see if I got this straight:MirrorLink requires the CD-MU200 cable, which looks only like a standard USB to MicroUSB. Is that all this is?AppRadio mode uses Pioneer's own built-in apps (and a companion app on the phone) to interface with the phone and use it's resources? So rather than using Google Maps like I do on the phone, I'll be using Pioneer's 'AppRadio' version of the maps app to navigate, but pulling the necessary resources from my phone? With this method, it looks like I'll have to do all the inputting on the phone and the receiver's screen just displays the map, nothing more? Do turn-by-turn directions come through the receiver? Can I continue to listen to music on the iPod while navigating, or must I stay in the maps app on the receiver?MirrorLink looks like I'm getting some version of my phone's home screen on the receiver's screen and actually interacting with my phone as if I were holding it in my hand, but through the receiver's screen instead? So I would be directly running the Google Maps app from my phone, but through the receiver? Will I do input on the receiver's screen? Will I retain voice search? turn-by-turn? And lastly, can I continue to listen to iPod audio while navigating?Any other differences I don't know about? Anything significant?I'd appreciate it if someone could break this down for me.

I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: AppRadio allows you to use apps from your phone (iphone OR Android) on the receiverMirrorlink (only for Android) is a system has tries to put your phones display onto your receiver. The music only cuts out when directions are givenThe CD-MU200 is simply a USB to MicroUsing Appradio, you could still use Googlemaps but you would still need to control it from your phone. And for MirrorLink, You can navigate via Google Maps. You are able to speak and type destinations. The app provides you with an on-screen map screen and audible directions. The music will continue to play when commands are not being given. If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.

is the included usb cable able to be used with a lightning connector or do we need a specialized cable to connect an iphone. Also can you use that same cable when updating frimware to connect a usb data stick?
[ Jose Dec 22, 2014 ]
Hi Jose Yes the radio comes with a USB cable so you can plug in your lightning cable also through the usb cable the firmwire updates can be done.
Yes, the cable needs to be plugged in the USB port1 slot for iPhone functionality and to update the firmware.
Does your phone have to be connected to the radio in order to benefit from the GPS antenna?
[ Alex Dec 19, 2014 ]
Yes, the head unit does not have navigation of its own. It uses your phones navigation and re displays it in a better, easier to read format.
As far as I know the antenna connected to the head unit is only used for app radio applications. Your phone and the Apple maps app within car play are utilizing the GPS in your phone.
Yes, this increases the GPS accuracy when using a phone connected app.
Yes, your phone has to be connected to the head unit to benefit from the GPS antenna. The AppRadio has no GPS software installed. All maps come from the phone. The antenna is only to amplify the accuracy of the phone's map app.
For me, the GPS antenna is just used to set the time.
My wife and I both have an iphone. If I am driving and connected to carplay and using it for the navigation, can my wife use her phone over bluetooth to stream music at the same time?
[ tbtbtbtb Dec 14, 2014 ]
I have never been able to do this. Maybe it can and I just haven't successfully done it? In any case, it must not be terribly obvious how to accomplish this.
Yes
Sorry I don't have and answer, I have not installed the Radio. After Christmas I will have one.
Will there be an automatic Bluetooth connection with my iphone, or do I need to physically connect my phone to the unit with a lightning cable? How many different phones can I pair?
[ Rlack Dec 10, 2014 ]
You can pair your phone and it will automatically connect for both music and phone calls. However it will not be in Apple Carplay mode. My understanding is Apple will be providing Bluetooth support of Apple Carplay with 9.0 IOS release.
If you set up Bluetooth pairing with your iPhone, calls will go through that if its not connected through CarPlay. I haven't tried it with more than one phone while connected to CarPlay, though.

I have questions regarding iPhone 5s connectivity and Apple CarPlay: The details page says that in order to use the Apps such as navigation, music streaming, calendar, etc. you have to connect your iPhone via the Pioneer connectivity kit which includes HDMI adapters but occupies USB port 1. The details page then continues and says that to use Apple CarPlay you simply need the stock Apple Lightning to USB cord which also occupies USB port 1. My question is how are you supposed to use the AppRadio functionality if it requires the connectivity kit but also use the CarPlay features with just a USB cord?Do I not need the connectivity kit? Or do I need two cords for my iPhone?
[ Carter Dec 09, 2014 ]
I forwarded your question to an Advisor and they responded with the following: The Pioneer SPH-DA120 AppRadio 4 comes with a 58' USB extension cable so you can route that to a convenient spot so and switch out if you want to use both of them. I would suggest just starting out with Carplay since it uses the basic lightening to USB cable. Also if you have iOS 8 as the App Radio Mode is currently only compatible with iOS 7.1.2If you would like to discuss further you can contact an Advisor directly by phone (1-800-324-9695) or online chat.
When watching video using HDMI, does the car need to be parked? Or can I play a video on the go.
[ Demetrious Dec 08, 2014 ]
I have still been unable to get a video signal to display via HDMI. Tried several different cables, but no video. Just audio. Haven't had a chance to call them yet.
You can play on the go, if you wire appropriately.
parked its apple not pioneer that does it
I haven't used that feature but I believe so. I've read reviews about earlier Pioneer models requiring the parking brake to be on to watch videos. I purchased this unit mainly to listen to music from my phone as I commuted to work via Carplay and for that it works well. Hope this helps.
You'll most likely need a micro bypass.
I didn't even know you could watch a video through HDMI.
If you are using the head units display and not some rear seat video display, yes the car will have to be in park with the emergency brake applied. The head unit makes you prove this by applying the emergecy brake twice.
You cannot play hdmi video while the car is in motion. Video playback is only when parking break is engage.
By default I would say yes, but a little bit of research and you may find a work around. I did for the appradio3 and the same workaround worked for the appradio4
I returned the item. so i don't know
The unit connects to your parking brake which must be engaged for the video to work.
I haven't installed mine yet but after looking through the owners manual, you have to have the emergency brake engaged to be able to use a lot of the features.
I'm looking to buy this for my 2007 jeep wrangler unlimited (with infinity system). I've gone to best buy and they said I need to buy extra parts to install this unit. I'm new to this and don't even know how to install this. My main concern is the lightning cable. Do I have to buy an HDMI to lightning cable or does it come with the unit? I just don't know what I need to buy in order for everything to work and fit into my vehicle. Thanks

(?) L/W/H measurents would be a nice thing to add to the item description. Only reason why I say that is because of custom installs that go from single to double din (like my car) Was designed to fit the NEX series, and Appradio 1 2 and 3. Those are all measured at a corners to corner of 7'. But no info is available for this new unit. And I don't know about anyone else but I would rather not waste my money on something that's either to big or to small to fit. I had the same problem. You must attach the GPS Square probe and let it connect to the time zone, even if you dont have any gps features. Once it is connect and picks up a signal you should be able to adjust the times by 30 minutes to get to the right time. When I installed mine I just pushed the little square back into my dash and its worked fine for me

How does this device work with the backup camera featured with the Nissan Rogue Select? Is the response time quick? Or does it not work at all?
[ T Nov 09, 2014 ]
The head unt has a RCA input for the video feed and a reserve wire that you can tap into to notify the unit that the car is in reverse. However, in my case (A Toyota Prius), OEM wiring is not RCA and it is running on a 6V current instead of 12V, so it isn't a plug-and-play for me. According to customer service here they don't have a harness kit to hook up the existing OEM wiring to RCA input either, so my backup camera isn't working right now. If you have good understanding of vehicle wiring, I would suggest you find a Nissan Rogue user forum and search for anyone who may have done this conversion before, and ask for instructions. Good luck!
I installed an after market backup camera, works fine, pops right up as soon as it's on and in reverse.
I installed this in my Nissan Versa, which I had installed a license plate backup camera. It works perfect with my backup camera and comes on instantly. Very clear monitor and bright. Could not be more pleased.
Will I need to purchase a separate wire harness to connect to the stock harness? Will I need to purchase a faceplate or mounting kit? Can I tie this down somehow stop thieves from stealing?

So not a question about anything in general .. Just would like to hear some feedback from owners of this unit how they like it? Does it work well with your steering wheel controls? Does this sit flush with most dash kits our have gaps around the edges and or stick out etc.? anyone use a back-up camera with this yet? Any functions missing that you wish it had they I may not be aware of? How well does CarPlay work with this unit? Anyone use Spotify via bluetooth and carplay yet? Etc. Etc. Etc. Just looking to get more feedback and reviews is all. Thanks

I purchased this unit for my wife's Nissan Versa, fit and installation went well. I hooked up a back-up license camera to the unit and it works very good. Nice large display. I cannot comment on steering wheel controls since her car does not have it installed.I updated my unit from 1.06 to firmware 1.07 I got from Pioneer's site. I have had a few issues, one is 'Hey Siri' feature (Siri eye free mode) the unit responds instantly, but does not activate the microphone most of the time. If I select Siri using the iPhone 6+ home button, it works as it is suppose too. Not sure if this is a Pioneer firmware issue or Apple IOS 8.1 issue. Pioneer is looking into it. I also have had the unit drop hardwire connect, which I then had to take out and reinsert the Lightning to USB Cable at the iPhone. When the unit works, it works well, all functions are seamless and switching back and forth from radio to CarPlay is perfect. I hope Siri issue can be resolved as well as the random disconnections. BTW, I do not have the Bluetooth enabled, since CarPlay is the main means I use for making phone calls and it works and sounds much better.I like the integration of smartphone and radio that Carplay provides. Screens do not show much lag when selecting iTunes, Phone, or Maps; actually seem pretty responsive to me. I figure Carplay will only get better as time goes on so I am willing to put up with a few bugs while it is getting squared away.
After a week I am very pleased with it. It's in my 370z and works great with the steering wheel; however, the one I purchased from Crutchfield had some issues and I had to purchase another (don't remember the name, but it's the same maker as what Crutchfield gave me as the dash kit. Everything looks and sounds clean in my car. As far as Bluetooth, always use CarPlay. You can adjust the Bluetooth input level, but it sounds muffled and not nearly as clean. Spotify will work via Lightening cable. I use Rhapsody mostly and it works great. Overall it's a great unit for the price, but I keep it simple. All I'm concerned with it compatibility with the iPhone (Music, Rhapsody, and Maps) I did install the HDMI and have the connector, but haven't had a need to use it yet.
I am loving this unit so far! Just installed it last week and exclusively use it in CarPlay mode. My vehicle doesn't have any steering wheel controls, sadly, and I haven't hooked up a backup camera yet, but am considering it. It does sit flush with the dash kit that Crutchfield sent me for the Toyota RAV4 (wish I could include a photo) and it practically looks like it was designed for this vehicle! Very small gap on the bottom that I don't even notice.I haven't used Spotify yet, but I have used iTunes radio, iHeart Radio, CBS talk radio, and the mapping/texting/calling features. Love this unit! Only thing that could be improved is if my car did have steering wheel controls. I have to adjust volume with the capacitive buttons along the left (which you can fully customize the colors of). Note that different functions (maps, texts, calls, music) control volume differently. You may need to adjust Siri reading text messages to get a proper volume, but once it's set, you should be good. I have texts around vol10, music around vol15, alerts around vol10, etc.
Ive heard from another review (android) that when using the navigation or maps, you are unable to play music at the same time. He said you could do one or the other, but it wouldn't do both like my phone could. Can anyone confirm this? Again, he was an android user, not IOS. Thanks!

I can not answer for android, but for iOS users you CAN play music and navigation at the same time. The user who said you can't is incorrect.
Right. I know you're asking about Android, but for others wanting the same answer, Joshua is correct.
I have used the CarPlay Apple Maps navigation on this unit, you can play audio while navigation is active. When navigation instructions are given the audio playback is muted, and returned when the instruction is completed.
When iPhone is connected and CarPlay is currently in use can the radio, etc. still be played an controlled? Seems as if there is no on screen controls for that while the CarPlay screen is on and and in use. Thanks

Indeed. Just tap 'MODE' then tap the down arrow on the upper right corner of the screen. You can select the radio, iPod, AUX, etc.
It can. You can hit the home button and it goes back to the car's apps. You can then use the mode button to switch between carplay and the radio.
There are no radio controls while in CarPlay mode, but there is a Mode button on touch controls along the left hand side of the display and also the 'AppRadio' button in CarPlay mode which takes you back to the Pioneer interface where you can control the radio as normal while your iPhone is connected. You can go back into the CarPlay interface while the Radio is playing, but my experience is as soon as you engage anything in CarPlay while listening to the radio, including Messages/Navigation it picks audio playback from the CarPlay connected device.
At any point you are able to flip back to the regular Pioneer interface by clicking the home or Mode button, at which point you can easily adjust the radio. It's quite seamless. Naturally while making this adjustment your CarPlay UI will no longer be on screen but it's one button press away.
Yes you can click the Pioneer button to flip out of car play. From there you can play the radio.Still, I'm not sure why you would want to with itunes radio and I ?? radio. But yes you can.
When iPhone is connected and CarPlay is in use, you can still return to appradio function by pressing the main home key. You can switch back and forth from pioneer's app radio and CarPlay. Also, when CarPlay is in use, you can still use your iPhone. CarPlay doesn't lock your phone in any way or prevent you from using your other iPhone apps.
Thanks for the reply! Thats a bummer that you have to switch back and forth. I will most often use the basic system anyway besides CarPlay .. I see me using that more when I am driving for longer distances or need navigation etc. So how do you like this unit? I have owned Pioneer touch screen before and like them .. I was first looking at 4000NEX but this seems to have the stuff I like and I like the capacative screen over the resistive of the others (and not spending $1400 for the 8000. Looking to put this in my 2011 GMC Siera truck with the iDatalink Mestro to have my steering wheels control everything etc. Any feedback on this unit and your thoughts would be great. Thanks so much.
Yes, you can press the mode button to switch between CarPlay and normal mode. You can also use either mode to control the iPod. I personally like the normal audio player to the car play one. You have more control and easy access to the settings and EQ.
How can I watch video on the screen using an iPhone 6?

I believe you need to purchase an HDMI cable and the Apple HDMI adaptor for the Lightning connector.
Connect an Hdmi cable to the port on the back of the unit, then you need to get a lightning to AV connector from Apple which connects to the Hdmi.
