Sandinista Clash Rare

This is one of my favorite albums of all time but it seems to be very polarizing. When I listened to it for the first time I wasn't expecting to like it ('A triple album? How up your own ass do you have to be?'), but I instantly loved it.

'The Magnificent Seven' really feels like the beginning of something truly epic, and it is. I think what puts the Clash ahead of almost all (or all) of the punk bands to emerge in the mid to late 70s is their ability to evolve. They never did the same thing twice; they'd immediately perfect something and then move on to something else. To me, Sandinista!, while not their best (which I'd say is their debut), is their album that exemplifies this ability the best. This album is two and a half hours of worldly weirdness with everything from ska to reggae to rockabilly to jazz to rapping to children's choirs; and even some of their punk rock roots remain ('Police on my Back'). And it's all done well (well, maybe the children's choirs didn't need to be there).

Or maybe it's its lowered reach; rare on these discs, this is no type of experiment or showboating but merely the Clash delivering truly melodic and memorable music. And seeing as how Sandinista! Features the Clash tackling as many as a dozen different genres.

May 31, 2012. Epic, 1980 The Clash 's ballooning ambition peaked with this three-album set, named after the Nicaraguan revolutionary movement. Joe Strummer and Mick Jones reached beyond punk and reggae into dub, R&B, calypso, gospel and even a kids' chorus on 'Career Opportunities.'

And the more I listen to it, the more I like each song. They're all very good except maybe the last five tracks (which are all different variations of previous songs) and 'Mensforth Hill' (whose weirdness I can still appreciate). Anyway, what're your thoughts on it?
